These blades serve to direct the air as it flows around inside the engine. The stator blades are situated ahead of the peripheral smaller but fast-spinning rotary angle that imparts thrust. The stator blades govern the movement of air that allows an engine to work well and be economical.

It is similar to swimming in a pool. Rough choppy water makes it far more difficult to swim fast and with good form. Well, when the water's calm and fairly level you can swim through it ten times faster without fraction of effort. This can be applied to the air moving through a jet engine. If things are working as they should, the air moves through the engine more smoothly and it is easier to extract enough power in order for the plane to take off.
